Privacy Policy
Appetit stores the recipes you import so you can cook from them. This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the app, how long we keep it and what you can ask of us.
Who we are
Appetit is made by Gleo, Lisbon 1250-044, Portugal, which is responsible for your data. For anything about your data, write to support@appetit.ai.
What we store
- Your recipes. Recipes you import (from links or photos) are stored in your account so they sync between your devices. They are private to your account unless you choose to share them (see Sharing, below).
- Your account. The app works without signup using an anonymous account. If you create an account, we store your email address to let you sign in on other devices.
- Purchase status. Whether your account has an active plan. Payments themselves are processed entirely by Apple or Google; we never see or store card details.
- Usage counters. A monthly count of AI imports, assistant requests and Appetit picks searches, used to apply fair-use limits. Never the words you searched.
- App events. Which steps of the app you use (for example, an import started or a recipe cooked) and the website name of a link you import, linked to your account, so we can see where the app gets in the way. Never recipe content and never anything you type.
- Your country. To show grocery prices from the right country, the app uses the country you pick in Settings, or else your network's country or your device region. Never a precise location.
- Sites you ask us to fix. When you tap “Ask us to fix this site”, we keep that link with your account so we can work on the site and bring the recipe to your library. We delete it once you add the recipe, 30 days after it is ready if you don’t, or after 90 days if the site cannot be fixed. If you allow notifications, we keep a notification token with it, only to tell you when the recipe is ready.
How imports and AI features work
- When you import a link, the page content is processed to extract the recipe. Pages without standard recipe markup, and photos you import, are processed by an AI service solely to extract the recipe text. We never use your content to train models.
- Photos you import are processed for extraction and are not retained on our servers after processing.
- Translations, ingredient swaps and matching ingredient names to grocery prices are processed by the same AI service, only for that request.
Sharing
Nothing you save is shared unless you do it. When you share a recipe or a shopping list as a link, anyone with that link can open it, and for a shopping list, tick and add items. When you join a household, its members see and edit the recipes shared in it. You can revoke a shared recipe link at any time.
Who helps us run Appetit
A small number of trusted providers help us run Appetit: cloud hosting and storage, the AI service behind the features above, notification delivery and crash reporting. They process data only on our behalf and only for these purposes. Some of them process data outside the European Union, under the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard.
Why we use your data
To give you the app you asked for (the contract between us), to keep it working and secure and see where it gets in the way (our legitimate interest in a working app) and, for notifications, only with your permission, which you can withdraw in your phone’s settings at any time.
How long we keep it
- Your recipes, account and app events stay until you delete them or your account.
- Guest accounts (never signed in) that go unused for 12 months are deleted with their recipes. Sign in to keep them for good.
- Sites you ask us to fix follow the times above.
What we never do
- No ads, no ad tracking, no sale of data to anyone.
- No publishing or redistribution of your recipes beyond the links you choose to share.
- No reading of your data beyond operating the service.
Your rights
You can see, correct, export and delete your data. Export all your recipes in Settings, and delete your account and everything in it in Settings, Delete account. For anything else, including a copy of what we hold or an objection to how we use it, write to support@appetit.ai and we will answer within 30 days. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in Portugal that is the CNPD.
Children
Appetit is made for adults who cook. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (16 in some EU countries). If you think a child has created an account, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes
When this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app.
